Black Educated Lesbians (BEL) is actively seeking passionate, mission-driven leaders to join our Board of Directors. As a national Black lesbian-led nonprofit, we are dedicated to advancing wellness, leadership development, economic mobility, education, and community connection specifically for Black lesbians and Black queer women within the LGBTQIA+ community.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals ready to leverage their skills, experience, and networks to help BEL grow and enhance its impact in the areas of social work and community development.
Board Member Responsibilities
Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly board meetings
- Serve on at least one committee
- Support fundraising and resource development efforts
- Act as ambassadors for BEL within their communities and networks
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight
- Participate in major BEL events, including the Annual BEL Conference
- Support organizational growth, partnerships, and sustainability
Qualifications
We welcome applicants from across the United States and internationally who:
- Believe in BEL's mission and values
- Possess strong communication and collaboration skills
- Are committed to advancing opportunities for Black lesbians
- Bring professional, lived, or community leadership experience
- Are willing to actively engage in fundraising efforts
Previous nonprofit board experience is valuable, though not required.
Give/Get Commitment
Each board member is expected to contribute or help raise a minimum of $2,000 annually through personal giving, sponsorships, grants, donations, fundraising activities, or in-kind support.
Time Commitment
Board members should anticipate dedicating approximately:
- 20 hours per month
- Monthly board meetings
- Committee meetings and special projects
- Participation in key BEL programs and events
